Eurmax Party Tent

Check it out on Amazon

The Eurmax pop up canopy offers a nice balance of price and quality. This is one of the pricier pop up canopies on this list, so it’s not the best for limited budgets. But it is fine if you want good value for the money.

At the base of the Eurmax pop up canopy is a tough powder-coated steel frame that should not rust and will withstand abuse well. The frame has 3 height settings too, so you could play around with the amount of sun and rain protection it provides.

The canopy fabric is tough 500D polyester. It is advertised to be waterproof, UPF50+ rated, as well as CPAI-84 fire-retardant. Combined with the durable steel frame, the polyester canopy should allow this thing to serve you for years.

What we also like about the Eurmax pop up canopy is that it’s available in multiple sizes and colors. The sizes go from 5 x 5 to 10 x 10 feet, so you should be able to find the right option for your backyard no matter your needs.

Eurmax also includes 4 sandbags that you can fill with sand and anchor to the legs to make the canopy more stable and wind-resistant.

Pros:

  • Multiple sizes and colors.
  • 3 height settings.
  • Powder-coated steel frame.
  • Fire-retardant 500D polyester canopy.
  • Includes sandbags.
  • 1-year warranty.

Cons:

  • Pricey.

Quik Shade Commercial

Check it out on Amazon

The Quik Shade commercial canopy is a good choice if you are looking for something large but wallet-friendly.

To be fair, the only thing that is commercial about this canopy is its name – it’s actually less durable than the Eurmax canopy and certainly isn’t suitable for commercial use. But it still offers pretty decent longevity.

We don’t have doubts that the frame of the Quik Shade canopy will work for years. Made of powder-coated steel, it should easily withstand corrosion and abuse.

As for the canopy itself, it’s somewhat weak. Made of 300D polyester, it withstands UV rays, but it’s noticeably weaker than the canopy of the Eurmax canopy. It’s not fire-retardant either, though it does have some water protection.

In terms of space though, the Quik Shade canopy is very nice – sized at 10 x 10 feet, it provides 100 square feet of area for rest and picnics. Interestingly, Quik Shade includes a removable wall panel with this canopy too for added privacy.

Pros:

  • Large and fairly pocket-friendly.
  • 3 height positions.
  • Powder-coated steel frame.
  • 300D fabric with decent durability.
  • Comes with a removable wall panel.
  • 1-year warranty.

Cons:

  • The fabric won’t withstand heavy abuse.

Coleman Swingwall Instant

Check it out on Amazon

The Coleman Swingwall instant canopy has one unique feature – an adjustable swinging wall (hence the product name). The Swingwall may be brought down to serve as a privacy or wind cover, or you may raise it as an awning for some added shade.

Note that the Swingwall is available only in the 10 x 10 feet canopy. There is also a 7 x 5 feet model WITHOUT the Swingwall. Be careful with what you are buying.

The Coleman instant canopy is extremely easy to set up as well. According to Coleman, it takes 3 steps and 3 minutes to fully set up this canopy, which makes it great for picnics and camping trips.

In terms of quality, the Coleman instant canopy is quite nice, especially for the price. The fabric doesn’t seem to be flimsy and provides great UV protection thanks to the UVGuard liner, while the welded steel feet make the canopy very stable.

The frame overall, however, appears to be on the flimsier side. Although it seems to be entirely made of steel, it is very lightweight, so we wouldn’t expect it to withstand abuse very well. But given how inexpensive this canopy is, this isn’t at all surprising to us.

Pros:

  • Fairly inexpensive.
  • 2 size options.
  • Very easy setup.
  • Swingwall that acts as a wall or awning.
  • Tough canopy with UVGuard liner.

Cons:

  • Relatively weak frame.

UNIQUECANOPY 10 x 10

Check it out on Amazon

The UNIQUECANOPY canopy is quite similar to the Quik Shade canopy reviewed earlier, but it has a few more goodies to offer.

First up, the canopy fabric here appears to be a little more durable. It’s 300D polyester that is waterproof, fire-retardant, and UV-resistant. All in all, we wouldn’t expect this fabric to be very long-living, but it should be a little tougher than in the Quik Shade canopy.

Secondly, UNIQUECANOPY includes 4 sandbags that you can anchor to the legs to improve the stability of this canopy. This isn’t that big of a deal since you can easily find sandbags on your own, but it’s still nice that UNIQUECANOPY allows you to do one step less for setup.

The UNIQUECANOPY pop up canopy is also based on a powder-coated steel frame with 3 height settings, so heavy use shouldn’t be a challenge for it. It’s large (10 x 10 feet) and pocket-friendly as well, so it’s a good pick for most buyers, whether on a budget or not.

Pros:

  • Wallet-friendly.
  • Large.
  • Powder-coated steel frame with 3 height settings.
  • Fire-retardant, UV-resistant, and waterproof polyester.
  • Includes sandbags.
  • Several color options.
  • 1-year warranty.

Cons:

  • Relatively flimsy fabric.

TISTENT 10 x 10

Check it out on Amazon

The TISTENT 10 x 10 feet canopy is a great pick for buyers with a limited budget – although, of course, you will have to sacrifice some quality. This canopy’s steel frame doesn’t appear to be corrosion-resistant, so you may want to be careful with it.

Other than that, the TISTENT canopy tent is very similar to the UNIQUECANOPY model we’ve just reviewed. This applies to size, included hardware, and also the canopy fabric. For the money, the TISTENT canopy offers pretty solid value.

The canopy is sized at a respectable 10 x 10 feet as well, and it also is available in several color options.

Pros:

  • Inexpensive.
  • Large size.
  • Fire-retardant, waterproof, and UV-resistant Oxford fabric.
  • Comes with sandbags for stability.
  • Available in several colors.
  • Covered by a 1-year warranty.

Cons:

  • Doesn’t seem to have corrosion protection.
  • Weak canopy fabric.

Features to look out for

Pop up canopies are a great way to get shelter in a short period. You can quickly erect them without too much hassle. But for them to be effective, there are certain features that you will need to be on the lookout for. Let’s take a look at some of these features, shall we?

Canopy material

While the material used to make canopies may differ, there are a few standard features necessary. This is an outdoor fixture meant to protect you from the weather, and as such, the material needs to be weatherproof.
You want to look for material that will protect you from the sun, rain, and other harsh elements. You also want to make sure that it does not fade or tear, or get damaged when exposed to the materials.

The quality of fabrics can be expressed in denier. It is usually denoted with the letter ‘D.’ It refers to the thickness of the material. Traditional fabrics typically have a denier of up to 80. While heavier fabrics, such as those used to make canopies, usually have deniers of between 100 and 600. This measurement is arrived at by analyzing a strand of fiber.

Canopies can be made of 600D, which is a plain weave polyester that has a PVC backing. The downside with this material is that it does not have any protection against the sun’s rays.

As such, it will wear out over time. However, it will keep water out. 420D is an industrial nylon fabric and is often used to make sports gear. It is favored for its waterproof qualities.

150D is a type of polyester fabric that is often used to make tents and pop-up canopies. It is waterproof and has UV resistance, so you know that the sun’s rays won’t damage it. Vinyl is amongst the most popular when it comes to buying a canopy. It is heavy and weatherproof. Polyethylene and polyester are also amongst the top choices because they are waterproof and lightweight.

Frame material

The frame on the pop-up canopy needs to be made of appropriate material. Often, you will find the frames are made of steel or aluminum. The reason being, steel is durable, and aluminum is lightweight. Durability is vital to hold up the canopy and so that outside elements do not damage it. It’s essential to get a lightweight frame so that you can easily transport it.

The frame needs to be able to fold easily and still stand upright when opened up. One of the major characteristics of a pop-up canopy is that it should be easily opened up and packed back up again.

Space

While there may be factors that influence what size tent you will need, there’s an easy way to know what size to go for. A 10 foot by 10-foot canopy will fit two six-seater tables as well as a buffet table. If you’re just looking for shade, it will provide 100 square feet of shade to accommodate 15 people comfortably.

It will seat 20 people in the ceremony style and eight people banquet style. A 20 foot by 20-foot canopy will fit 65 people ceremony style and 32 banquet style. These numbers may not be the same, but it’s a good ballpark figure to work with.

Ease of setup

Pop up canopies are an excellent way to erect a temporary structure. But this is hinged on how easy it is to set up. Look for something that only needs a couple of minutes to set it up. You want to ensure that the canopy can be set sturdily on the ground, in a few easy steps, and locks in place. Even though it is easy to set up, it should not be easy to pull down. It, therefore, goes without saying that the locking mechanism must be functional.

Screened walls

Screened walls come in handy when you want to protect people under the canopy from the cold, the wind, and rain. However, it’s a bit of a problem when it comes to exhibition stands. The screens prevent free passage. To allow clear sight through the walls, you would have to have transparent walls or mesh walls. These are usually used for wedding marquees where the aesthetics count.

A mesh screen will also allow air in but keep bugs out, similar to camping tents. The screens should be heavy-duty material that is waterproof and can keep strong winds out.

Floors

Look for floors that will be just as easy to set up as the tent itself. Plastic polypropylene makes suitable flooring for a portable pop up canopy. It keeps the cold out and protects whatever is on the ground, such as sticks and stones.
It’s also a waterproof material, which makes it easier to use when the ground is wet. You want to make sure that you get a floor that is the same size as the canopy and ensures it can be safely secured.

Carry bag

Since you are looking for a pop-up canopy, it also means that you want something portable and easy to move around with or pack up. This will be made easier by having a bag that you can carry it in. it needs to be big enough to house the canopy and frame comfortably without ripping apart. This boils down to durable material. Polyester is a good buy.

A good set of handles makes it easy to move. Some bags have wheels on them so that you can simply roll the satchel to its next destination.

Guy lines, stakes & ropes

If you’re as paranoid as I am, you want to be double sure that the pop-up canopy is properly secured to the ground, even though it’s easy to set up. This happens with the use of good quality guy lines, stakes and ropes. The guyline needs to provide structure for the tent where there aren’t any poles to do that. In essence, it is a cord or rope that will provide stability to the canopy and overall structure.

You may also want to ensure that the loops are compatible so that when you attach the guy lines to stake them down, the fit is secure.
