- 12 slices white bread
- 12 slices cheddar cheese
- 1 large yellow onion sliced
- 2 large tomatoes sliced
- ½ cup chutney
- butter softened
- ½ tsp kosher salt
- ½ tsp ground black pepper
Preheat your braai or grill to medium (see notes), around 350-400°F (175-205°C)
Spread each slice of bread with a liberal amount of chutney
Top the chutney with two slices of cheese per sandwich
Layer the sliced tomatoes and onions on top of the cheese
Season the sandwich with salt and pepper, and then place a slice of bread with chutney on to finish
Spread the outside of each sandwich with softened butter
Place the sandwich in a braai grid or tie it with butchers twine soaked in water
Braai/grill the sandwiches until the outside is toasty and the cheese has melted
Slice the sandwiches and serve
