Electric Smoker Chicken Breast

Smoke chicken breasts the easy way with this electric smoker recipe. Prepared with a simple herb BBQ dry rub and cooked over applewood, these smoked boneless chicken breasts are bursting with barbecue flavor.

Equipment

  • Smoking wood chips (apple, peach or cherry)

Ingredients

  • 4 large chicken breasts skinless and boneless
  • 3 tbsp olive oil

BBQ Dry Rub

  • 1 tbsp thyme
  • 2 tbsp chili powder
  • 2 tbsp cayenne pepper
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp onion powder
  • 1 tbsp kosher salt
  • 2 tbsp ground black pepper

Instructions

  • Fire up electric smoker to 225°F (107°C). Put apple, peach, or cherry wood chips in the tray or smoker box.
  • Coat the chicken breasts in a thin layer of olive oil. Combine all dry rub ingredients in a small bowl. Apply dry rub seasoning to each breast, covering evenly on all sides.
  • Transfer breasts to electric smoker. Close door and smoke until internal temperature has reached 160°F (71°C), approximately 1 hour.
  • Remove chicken breasts from smoker and place on chopping board. Tent in aluminum foil and leave to rest for 5-10 minutes, or until internal temperature has risen to 165°F (74°C).
  • Serve whole or in slices.
